Photography has been a longtime passion of mine. As is explained on my Photography page (click that link up there if you have no idea what I’m talking about ^) , I’m a novice. It’s a passion I never give much time to. Inspired by the work of fellow novice photographer/home decor blogger Katie Bower, I decided to dust off the ol’ DSLR – oh yeah…. I literally mean DUST – and get back at it. I even went so far as to snag a new lens for this baby. I tend to lean towards portrait photography and no I don’t mean the posed cheesy ones we all took for yearbooks back in high school. So, I decided since most of my photography would end up being in that genre, that it was a good investment to buy a cheap fixed length lens with a super low f-ratio (which makes those great blurry backgrounds).
Enter the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this thing. I can’t tell you enough. Granted the inability to zoom in and out is a big transition for someone who’s not used to moving towards or away from the subject for a shot and the auto-focus is pretty loud (aka don’t try to take pictures at like a recital or wedding unless you want to get the stink eye from people). But, if you can get beyond the obvious, it’s a great investment!
Anyway, I’ve only had it for 24 hours, so obviously I don’t have a lot to show for this “great investment” yet, but keep checking that page for more pics. So far, I’ve just used my cat and roommate’s puppy as models to practice. Hopefully I can sway some currently unwilling friends to fill that role later.
