Glass Carboy Lamps
I’ve been seeing a lot of these in stores like Crate and Barrel and Restoration Hardware and was really wanting a pair to go on my night stands… well future night stands. Not wanting to fork over a few hundred dollars, I was just planning on scrapping the whole idea.
Luckily, during my move, I discovered two glass carboys I bought a few years ago back when I had great ambitions to home brew beer. That never happened and these glass jugs were just sitting in my closet collecting dust. I googled for a diy/how-to/tutorial to make my own remembering a lamp my great aunt had made out of an old glass jug back in the 70s. I ran to IKEA and snagged two large white-ish lamp shades and two lamp kits from Home Depot. Me + electrical wires do NOT mix. So, after some trial and error, a bit more googling to figure out how to put the lamp kit together, and some Gorilla glue, I somehow managed to successfully make glass lamps. If only I’d remembered to pick up light bulbs while I was out. Bummer.

The whole project ran me about $40 : $10/each for the lamp kits and $10/each for the lamp shades. The glass carboys came free from my closet with the help of some windex to clean them up. Super cheap compared to the ones sold in stores! And for right now until I can find some night stands, this one looks great on my dresser.
