Well. There you have it. I’ve gone and done it now. I’ve purchased www.nicolelitton.com. I’ll be the first to admit there was a moment of anxiety as I stared at the progress bar on the page while the domain registry site was determining if MY OWN NAME was available. A huge sigh of relief when it was, but then they wanted me to PAY FOR IT? I’m sorry… what?
But I suppose you could argue that it was a relatively small price to pay for preserving the reputation of my name. Imagine the horror of going to www.yourname.com and discovering it was a porn site. No no. I couldn’t let that undetermined fate of my website remain.
It’s been a long time coming to be honest. It seemed a little narcissistic to choose my name for a domain, but various versions of Post Grad were already taken (no surprise there) and the aforementioned argument got the better of me. And hopefully this will be a little easier to find than the previous address (people.virginia.edu/~jnl9r). Many thanks to my Alma Mater UVA for hosting my very first site. I always appreciated that UVA provided each of its students with hosting for a personal website often used for classes and various projects at least for us CS majors. Unfortunately, I was never sure of how long after our graduation these domains would be available to us or if we’d have any warning before they were removed. Better safe than sorry. And let’s be honest. On the brink of an apartment move in 9 days – down to single digits here! – I wanted a fresh look for the site as well with all the impending projects to be shared.
So hopefully we’re all settled here at our new location, but I do apologize if at times things get a little hung up. I’m still transitioning old files over and am working hard on a new header… oh the possibilities.
For any of you techy curious people – I decided to go with iPage for hosting. They had the most reasonable prices for my very minimal needs as well as a great scripting interface for WordPress which I will forever swear by.
