Bedroom Window Update

As you saw the other day, we finally replaced those awful vertical blinds we’d been dealing with for the past 3 months.  What I didn’t talk about was the little curtain and curtain rod project.

Inspiration for this project came from The Lettered Cottage’s recent guest bedroom reveal.  I’d recently acquired some new curtains and curtain rods from a friend who has also just recently moved into a condo 2 blocks away.  At the time I wasn’t necessarily sure we even need them, but certainly wasn’t about to pass up something free and figured this might help motivate me to actually hang some curtains.

The curtain rods were the EXACT same ones I used to have in my bedroom when I was little.  You know the ones.  The white metal rods with gold ends?  The shape was basic which was already a huge improvement from the spiral ended ones that came with the house, but I wasn’t crazy about the colors.  I went out a bought a can of Rustoleum spray paint in oil-rubbed bronze and took the rods out back for a fresh coat of paint.

I’ll admit I didn’t do the greatest job painting them.  The coats aren’t even.  Some newspaper stuck to them in a few places because I turned them over to spray the other side before the first side had fully dried.  You get the idea.  But no one was going to be standing inches from them and inspecting my paint job, so I didn’t stress over it.  Basically I’m lazy and don’t care.

I bought some curtain clips from IKEA and clipped the tabs off my old $19 LENDA curtains from IKEA.  The room instantly looks a thousand times better.  The room suddenly has this exotic beachy feel to it.  It isn’t exactly what I’d intended as I was aiming for a more cozy cabin feel, but we love it.  And maybe the room will come together more once we’ve painted and moved the rustic headboard up there.
