Today began a week-long madness that reigns in the new school year. For us upperclassmen, it begins with moving in early to beat the rush, pushing and shoving through the crowds at favorite stores like Target, Walmart, and Bed Bath & Beyond waving your coupons in the air like it grants you VIP status in the store. Then comes move-in weekend where all the 1st and 2nd years load up mom’s minivan and join a few thousand of their new best friends on the sidewalks outside of dorms to unload their crap. This is when us upperclassmen HIDE. We hide in our apartments refusing to move our cars for risk of losing our valuable parking space and not wanting to fight the masses in traffic and stores.
As a 5th year, I’m more than familiar with the routine. I’ve already brought work home with me, done my grocery shopping, and rented movies well prepared for a few days of house arrest. Luckily for me, I’ve got a friend from college (ha that sounds weird to say, but she’s actually graduated and has a full-time job these days) visiting for the weekend while she helps her baby brother move in to his dorm. So I’m busying myself by scrubbing the apartment and packing away the piles of clothes strewn across my bedroom floor for the past 2 weeks during my little dresser renovation.
Speaking of, as promised, here’s a pic of the progress. This is after the 2 coats of paint. I’ll go back and do a coat of polyurethane and get black or brushed nickel drawer pulls. This shows it with the old hardware which I reinstalled merely while I have company for the weekend.
